It’s April and that means two things – the start of wedding season and plenty of spring rain showers. Now, we know that you’re probably not wild about the thought of rain on your wedding day but we’re here to tell you that you don’t need to be down about downpours. Here’s the Perfect Day Bride guide to weatherproofing your wedding day look…

Get Under Your Umbrella! Yes, plan ahead and make sure that you’ve got some great umbrellas to hand – clear ones can look fab in photos and pretty parasols or brightly coloured umbrellas will keep your dress, hair and make-up dry plus they’re also fun photo props.

Stand On A Sheet! It might not be the sexiest addition to your wedding day kit but having a white sheet to stand on for the formal photos can stop your dress getting too mucky.

Bustle Up! When you come into Perfect Day for your fittings, let us know if you want a loop added to your gown so you can bustle up your train (this is just as handy for dancing as it is for wet weather!) or task a bridesmaid to carry your train for you.

Emergency Kit! If you’re worried that the rain won’t be kind to your make-up, speak to your make-up artist about an emergency kit. Most will be able to leave you with some bits and bobs that will allow you to make running repairs during the day.

Stay Fuzz Free! Some of us just know when the weather’s going to change and any hint of rain in the air brings on the fuzzy hair look. If this is you, chat with your hairdresser so that they can use products to tame your tresses or even go for a different style entirely

A Shoe Alternative! At Perfect Day, we LOVE shoes (see our fab edit of the best w-day heels from Harriet Wilde and Charlotte Mills) and the thought of beautiful bridal shoes covered in mud makes us want to sob. So, break out the coloured or patterned wellies and say goodbye to muddy nightmares.

Embrace The Veil! Veils are brilliant. They’re romantic, incredibly bridal and altogether fantastic for just protecting your hair and make-up on a rainy day. Not only that, but they look downright ACE in photographs. Visit our Shoe & Sparkle Bar to find yours.

Wrap Up! Remember that quite often, the rain arriving also means a drop in temperatures and a shivering bride never looks great. Make sure that you’ve got a wrap or shrug to hand so you’re warm AND dry all day long.

Plan Ahead! Of course, the best way to weatherproof your wedding day look is to plan ahead and make sure that you’ve got alternative locations for drinks receptions, photographs and every other element in advance. So much easier than stressing on the day.

Smile! You might have planned the perfect wedding day but you can’t control the weather. If it rains, smile. Grab an umbrella and your partner and celebrate the fact that YOU’RE MARRIED because, let’s face it, nothing else really matters.
